A report leaked. Was the leak
intentional? Was it as a result of the natural course of journalistic
curiosity? Whatever the means and the philosophy behind it, the report leaked.
The report is a report on climate change. The report is largely United States
specific. The general thrust of the information is that climate change is
anthropogenic; that is climate change being experienced in our day (specifically
United States of America, as far as this report goes) is caused by the
activities of human beings, the smartest creatures on planet Earth! Climate change, to my mind, is climate
patterns that do not conform to expected and known climate trends on a
progressively sustained level. Manifestations
of climate change come in the form of melting and splitting icebergs, rising
sea levels- already washing away some coastal towns, heat waves, unprecedented
quick succession of record temperatures etc.
However, not all inhabitants on
planet Earth believe that erratic climate expression and behavior is as a
result of what human beings do here on Earth by way of how we extract and use
material resources bequeathed to the currently living by forebears. These are
classified as climate change skeptics. Some examples of such constituents of this
class are Donald Trump, the current president of the United States of America,
and the Grand Old Party of the United States of America (GOP) generally. The
skeptics believe the attribution of climate change to human activities lacked
certitude. Others skeptics believe what is happening here on Earth is as a
result of changes happening in the solar cycle.
The leaked report tells of the rapid and
dramatic rise in the mean temperature of the United States of America since
1980, and warmest in recent decades in the past 1500 years. The report says the
United States of America is feeling the effects of climate change right now. The
information is talking about climate change due to the activities of man. The
report to a large extent scientifically linked climate change to human activities.
This is significant in that the current President of the United States of
America and the Republican Party of the United States of America (or GOP) do
not believe in the anthropogenic cause of climate change. The leaked report
indicates that part of the United States experiences extreme wetness while another
part experiences increasing hotness.
The report was expected to get
the approval of the Trump administration before it is made public. Given the Trump
administration’s position on climate change some scientists harbor the fear
that the report would be suppressed. Others, climate change skeptics,
on the other hand fear that the report could be made public. If that happened,
then their position could weaken further.
The report is authoritative. The report
had USA congressional authority. It is a federal climate change report. The
report was put together by scientists from 13 USA federal agencies with the
mandate of USA Congress.
These scientists are persons who have
dedicated their lives and expertise to specific areas of discipline on climate
change science.
While the jostle over the certitude of the
attribution of climate change rages on, the exacerbation of the deterioration of
the natural environment continues, exactly because of the lack of convergence
and comprise of ideas and ideology.
The scientists are to be believed rather than
politicians who do not have the same preoccupation and exposure as the
scientists. If you believe scientists, you follow what they say, and say to do.
That is a way to a sustainable clean and balanced natural environment.
